The lagoon is world famous for diving. The underwater world is among the richest and most marvelous in the world. The clear, warm waters conceal treasures of beauty: tropical fish, shells and corals abound.
There are more than 12,000 species of plants, 700 different species of orchids, 110 varieties of palm trees and an abundance of spices vanilla, cinnamon, pepper, cloves, ginger, ylang-ylang, coffee, cocoa, tea, cane sugar…
The fauna is extremely rich. Thousands of species of butterflies and invertebrates. Among the endemic animals, there are lemurs, about fifty species, 41 species of chameleons as well as a wide variety of birds.
